Funding Sources

Princeton is a very generous institutions since it guarantees full funding during the duration of the students’ program length. Yet, it is still good to seek external fellowships for multiple reasons. For example, Princeton will give you an extra $4,000 a year if you receive a fellowship that can fully fund you. It is also good practice to draft proposals (both if you want an academic or a non-academic job), and it can give you some additional freedom as to what specific projects to work on.

There are many sources out there, but some of the most common ones that students from our department have received are the following:

  • NSF: only U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
  • NASA Earth and Space Science Fellowship: open for everyone, including international students.
